ENGLISH LANGUAGE INSTITUTE
Cultural Enrichment ExperienceThere is no better way to learn a language that to become immersed in a context where you experience the culture of native speakers, and engage in the activities of their culture.
The HCHE cultural enrichment experience gives students the opportunity to improve their English language skills by living and studying together with South African students. It also affords students who would like to spend some time among the rich and vibrant cultural tradition of Africa, the opportunity to do this in a safe, Christian environment.
South Africa (SA) is the definition of a cultural experience, with influences from all over the world. South Africa has 12 official languages, and if you are looking to experience most of, if not all of that culture in one place, look no further than Cape Town, South Africa, the tourist capital. In Cape Town, there is so much to see, do, and experience. You could live here and still not experience everything.

So why come and experience SA at Helderberg College of Higher Education (HCHE)? HCHE is located at the foot of Helderberg Mountain, where the institution gets its name from. HCHE is located in the suburb of Somerset West, (about 45 minutes from the City of Cape Town). Somerset West is uniquely located in the middle of most of the points of interest in Cape Town, but is quiet enough to get away from the hustle and bustle. Because of the location of HCHE at the foot of Helderberg mountain, you have access to nature without needing to leave the campus. You are even able to hike to the top of Helderberg mountain from the campus. The College is a mere 10 minutes from Strand beach, which has a long stretch of beach where you can walk, swim, or engage in water sports.
During your stay at HCHE, you will attend some of the already existing classes to give you an opportunity to learn English in an academic setting, as well as learn something in a course of study that interests you. You will also have the opportunity to be involved in the campus library and other departments, which gives you a chance to interact with many of the students on campus, and gives you the opportunity to form new friendships.

We have many student activities on campus. During the winter months, you will have access to an indoor gym where you can play basketball, indoor volleyball, and indoor soccer, and do some weight lifting. In summer, you can swim in our saltwater pool, make use of the multiple outdoor fields, or simply go for a walk in nature.
On Sabbaths (Saturdays), the campus is abuzz with church-related activities including special music programmes, guest speakers, and afternoon programmes. You will have your pick of 3 different churches to attend on campus, although we recommend the All Nations Campus Church, or ANCC for short. This is the church where most of our students attend and is run by our students under the supervision of the HCHE Chaplain.
We look forward to having you participate in our programmes.

If you are looking to learn English through communicting with English speakers, and have an immersive cultural experience like no other, HCHE is the place for you.
