Dear Students and Staff
Over the past few days, the media has been covering the horrific and gory events that happened to University students in the city. Several such incidents have occurred during this year in institutions of higher education and in our communities.
These institutions have taken up a march in protest against such horrific incidents. Helderberg College of Higher Education hereby expresses solidarity with other institutions of higher learning where students have been attacked in the most brutal and horrific ways. One cannot keep silent about these occurrences but to voice our concern about what is happening to young women and children around us. We cannot condone these acts of violence where families and communities live in fear.
We pray for the protection of our students, youth, children, the elderly, and men, and women alike.
We express our sincere condolences to the families and friends of Jesse Hess, of UWC and Uyinene Mrwetyana of UCT, and others who are suffering as a result of such atrocities. May they be comforted by the fact that they are not alone in their grief and loss. May God grant them strength and peace as time goes by and as the perpetrators are brought to justice.
I request you to join the candlelight prayer meeting today at 18:30 this evening at the Bell Tower.
Kind Regards,
Vincent Injety, PhD
President
