Faculty of Theology
WELCOME TO THE FACULTY OF THEOLOGY
A hearty welcome to you, prospective ministers. The Faculty of Theology at Helderberg College of Higher Education is here to serve you as you seek to prepare for pastoral ministry in the Adventist Church.
The four-year Bachelor of Arts in Theology degree that we offer is an important part of your preparation for ministry. Upon completion of the programme you will be eligible for employment and training as an intern pastor in the conferences of the Southern Africa Union Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church (SAU) and in the SDA Church globally. The degree will also qualify you for postgraduate studies at South African universities or at other tertiary institutions worldwide.
The degree will expose you to a broad spectrum of theological and pastoral studies. These include biblical studies, systematic theology, preaching, evangelism, mission work, pastoral counselling, and many other skills that are relevant to pastoral work.
While the theology degree is an academic programme, its main objective is to prepare students for the noble calling to pastoral ministry. With this in mind, you are encouraged, not only to be studious, but to actively participate in the life of your local church. You are encouraged to observe and/or assist your pastor as often as you have opportunity so that you learn the practical/professional aspects of pastoral work. In addition, learn from the positive example of your lecturers and other relevant personnel that you encounter on campus.
Once again, we welcome you to the Faculty of Theology. We trust that you will grow, both academically and spiritually, during the course of your studies.
If you still need to submit an application you can do so by clicking here. If you need additional assistance please feel free to contact me using the contact form below.
We look forward to meeting you.
